In the spirit of the experience, I thought it would fun to dress the part...
With no fascinator in sight and given the chill in the air, the damsel look was out... But what about those white pants and boots...? Its's past labor day...and I'm dressed as a jockey. Really? Sa-weet!
Outfit sorted, time to place the bets!
So it turns out you can make quite a science of horse betting. Without getting into the details (wouldn't want to ruin the discovery process for you), one could easily study the program days in advance and plan the strategy; course configurations, odds, jockeys, match-ups, breading, colour, smell.
I, on the other hand, arrived clueless. And so although my horserace watching companion could moonlight as a professional analyzer, I picked my horse based on its name: Say Fabulous. How fabulous! I'm fabulousmiss!
And in grand style, I won that race! My first race and only race...of 5.
My self-taught strategist of a friend on the other hand... 4 of 5. Hmmm. Perhaps best to reevaluate my approach.
Bets aside, it was another astoundingly perfect autumn day. And Oh! the people watching! The people watching!
Thanks Maureen for introducing me to Hastings Race Track!
