First First: where the Thompson meets the Fraser

FiftyTwo Firsts kicked off in a very big way!

Twenty friends and friends of friends descended into the Lytton BC area to tackle the white water of the Thompson River. Deep in the Wild West, home of the Canadian gold rush, the treacherous rail mountain pass, rattle snakes, too many bottles of wine and then "The Terminator",

we survived the convergence of the mighty Thompson and Fraser.

A first in many respects. It was a real joy to pitch a tent high above the river and watch in amazement at the trains rolled by hugging the unstable crumbly terrain.

Tents set up, we were essentially a community of strangers. But it wasn't long before the drink poured and the laugher roared. Learning proper stewardess exit identification hand direction...made more special by glowstick bracelets.

Rafting in glacial water, sitting on the  bow, squealing as its nose dips into a massive valley of water only to take air as we careen of the lip of the wave. Ten of us killing ourselves with laughter.

Spending an evening dancing in the street with Lytton's 200 residents. Looking up at most amazing stars I've ever seen.

New place, new people, new experience. It was the right combination to bring us all together, to push us all a little outside our comfort zones and to create a great memory and an even better FiftyTwo FIRST!

Thanks to Kumsheen Rafting Resort for their amazing facilities (hello swim-up bar in the middle of the desert) delicious meals, laid-back curfews (we were 20 20-30 somethings after all) and of course, the exhilarating experience of careening down the river. The guides were knowledgable, safe but fun and made sure we all had an experience of a life time!
