Yes we CANstruction!

I once walked past the scotiabank by the Four Seasons Hotel and within, I noticed giant structures. Structures of all kinds. Teetering high above my 5"4 stature. And these structures...all made of canned food!

Seriously impressive stuff! From angry birds and Despicable Me minions, to orcas and gum boots; all kinds!

What a great way to bring corporate teams together for some really fun and authentic team building. And of course, an ingenious way to raise proceeds and donations for the local food bank!

So when my office put out feelers to see if we would be interested in a little competition of our own, I was all over it! Of course.

My team won the Hallow'en decorating competition this past fall. And a few years ago, my team's ginger bread entry crushed to competition. Although this is all for charity, my competitive nature was sparked. I must defend my honour and my title. Oh wait, there is no "I" in "team"...right. But there is "me"! And me want to win!

(Our winning open-pit candy mine including solar panels and wind turbine. and little chocolate high-viz men...Just sayn')

I wasn't alone in this. My team was equally determined! Unfortunately, void of engineers, just figuring out how to build anything more than 1 level of cans up, was going to be challenging. And so, we tried good old fashioned graph paper and pencil. Moving onto pixel programs and Lego building software. We tried real Legos and even marshmallows. But it was a hung-over Sunday morning of sitting on the floor and playing around with  actual cans that a plan was born.
(Sloppy, sleepy Sunday morning)

And then game day was upon us. Five hour time limit... I will let the photos speak for themselves:

A giant panda was created. Entirely out of cans. It was awesome! And we we won! And so did the food bank! We lead other teams with 680 cans donated!
(And yes, we all wore black and white in honour of our CANfu Panda)

Haaaaaa-ya!
